Abstract

In Part One of our series we examined need, demand, wait list and allocation aspects of the corneal tissue supply and demand cycles, with an emphasis on the contemporary COVID-19 era. In Part 2 we expand upon these concepts by examining surplus and waste constructs. We use real-world examples and scenarios, though predominantly focusing on Australia in comparison to the USA, to demonstrate surplus and waste management differences. Finally, we continue to include the COVID-19 pandemic example to highlight the fragility of the supply and demand cycle.
