Abstract

Nearly 60 years have elapsed between the first cornea transplantation in Canada, in 1955, and the establishment of Regulations and Standards of Practice managing all organ, tissue, and cell transplantation in the country. In the last decade alone, however, the federal government and donation and transplant communities came together and built a national, integrated system of standards and regulations governing tissue donation and transplantation, making Canada the only country in the world that administers all processes around organ, tissue, and cell transplantation under a single document.
