As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission’s compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  2. The text file has been prepared in Microsoft Word in a document file format (.doc extension), is double spaced, uses a 12-point Times New Roman font, and employs italics rather than underlining except with URL addresses.
  3. References have been entered in the metadata (if submitted online) as well as accompanying the article. DOIs (digital object identifiers) for the references have been provided, or alternatively, URLs.
  4. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Manuscript Submission guidelines.
  5. All illustrations, figures, and tables are cited in numerical order within the text. All files corresponding to graphical material are identified and emailed or uploaded as supplementary files.
  6. Legends for each numbered graphic have been supplied at the end of the manuscript.
  7. Written permission for any material, text or graphic, to which a publisher holds the copyright has been obtained and uploaded as supplementary documents or emailed.
  8. Appropriate steps have been taken to address matters of any patient’s privacy, to secure informed consent, and to comply with guidelines for experimental investigation with human subjects and/or generally accepted principles of animal care.
  9. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
  10. All authors have completed and signed an Author’s Declaration and Copyright License form to be uploaded in PDF format as supplementary documents or emailed by the corresponding author.
  11. All authors have completed and signed an Author’s Disclosures form to be uploaded in PDF format as supplementary documents or emailed by the corresponding author.
